Steps Toward Prosperity

Prosperity is not instant riches, but rather a progression toward gaining wealth.

I. God is the source of prosperity.
Philippians 4:19  "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus."
II Corinthians 9:8   "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work."
Psalms 24:1 "The earth is the LORD'S, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein."

Note:  Since everything belongs to God, we only become stewards of what belongs to Him.

II. God desires to prosper us.
III John 1:2  "Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth."
Psalms 23:1 "The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want."
Deuteronomy 8:18  "But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day."

Note: Since it is God's desire to prosper us, we should look to see what the prerequisites are.

III. We should seek the counsel of God.
Proverbs 8:12 "I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions."
Luke 11:9  "And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."
James 1:5 "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Note: Wisdom is seeing from God's perspective.  If we ask in faith, He will reveal His wisdom to us.

IV. We should make plans to receive prosperity.
Luke 14:28-30  "For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?    Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,    Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish."
Proverbs 21:5 "The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want."

Note: Why should God give us what we don't plan for?

V. We should listen to the counsel of others.
Proverbs 12:15 "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise."
Proverbs 13:10 "Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom."
Proverbs 15:22 "Without counsel purposes are disappointed: but in the multitude of counsellors they are established."

Note: God has made us to work together as a body with each part having a function.

VI. We should make corrections as needed.
Exodus 18:17-27 "And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.  Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.    Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:    And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.  Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:    And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.  If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.   So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.    And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.   And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.   And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land."

Note:  The need to make corrections from time to time is God's way to keep us humble.

VII.  We are to live by faith.
Romans 10:17  "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Joshua 1:8  "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."
Psalms 1:1-3 "Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper."

Note: Faith comes from hearing, meditation upon, and applying the Word of God.

VIII. We should expecting a testing of our faith.
I Peter 1:7 "That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ."
I Peter 4:12-13 "Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy."

Note: Metal is tested to be sure that it can withstand the stress.  Prosperity may also bring stress in our lives as well.

IX. We should learn endurance.
Hebrews 6:14-15  "Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.  And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise."
James 5:11  "Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy."

Note: Prosperity comes after endurance.

X.  By faith we are to go beyond what is expected of us.
Luke 17:5-10 "And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.    But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?  And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?  Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.   So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do."

Note: When we have done what was expected, "We also should say that we have done nothing."  Faith is going beyond the required, believing that God will honor our efforts.

XI.  We must also be patient.
James 1:3-4 "Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing."

Note: Patience is waiting faithfully upon God when we don't see the results in the natural.

XII. We should look beyond the circumstances and see the work of God.
II Corinthians 9:8-10 "And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:   (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.  Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)"

Note: We must hold to the promise that God will provide both the seed to sow and also bring the harvest.  Amen.
