Longevity Test

Score Sheet

Psalms 90:10 "The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away."
Understand that Longevity ultimately is in God's hands!

However, for the sake of scoring yourself, you may begin with 70 years and add one year to 70 years for each correct answer and subtract one year for each incorrect answer.
Therefore, the range will be from 46 to 96 years.

[Y] [N] = [YES] [No]

[ ] [x]  1. Do you eat pork products (bacon, ham, pork chops)?  Pork is considered to be an unclean food and has a high content of fat.   "And the swine, though he divide the hoof, and be clovenfooted, yet he cheweth not the cud; he is unclean to you" (Leviticus 11:7).  "Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Ye shall eat no manner of fat, of ox, or of sheep, or of goat" (Leviticus 7:23).

[x] [ ]  2. Do you exercise regularly?  Even Scripture acknowledges the value of physical exercise.   "For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come" (I Timothy 4:8).

[ ] [x]  3. Are you a workaholic, or do you otherwise abuse your body?  If you abuse your body, you may shorten your life.  "Yet I supposed it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, and companion in labour, and fellowsoldier, but your messenger, and he that ministered to my wants.    For indeed he was sick nigh unto death: but God had mercy on him; and not on him only, but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow" (Philippians 2:25, 27).    "If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are" (I Corinthians 3:17).

[ ] [x]  4. Do you eat shell fish (shrimp & lobster) or catfish?  These often contain poisons that make us sick.    "These shall ye eat of all that are in the waters: whatsoever hath fins and scales in the waters, in the seas, and in the rivers, them shall ye eat" (Leviticus 11:9).

[x] [ ]  5. Do you honor your parents?  This was the first promise of long life in Scripture.    "Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee" (Exodus 20:12).  "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.  Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)     That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth" (Ephesians 6:1-3).

[ ] [x]  6. Do you have a lot of fears or worries?  Fear and worry often are associated with heart trouble.   "Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken" (Luke 21:26). "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.   Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (I Peter 5:7-8).

[ ] [x]  7. Do you ever take credit for God's work in your life?  God takes this offense very seriously.    "And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.   And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.    And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.    And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost" (Acts 12:20-23).

[ ] [x]  8. Do you commit sexual sins (premarital or extramarital relation)?  Sexual sins opens the door to many diseases.   "Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body" (I Corinthians 6:18). "With her much fair speech she caused him to yield, with the flattering of her lips she forced him.  He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;  Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life" (Proverbs 7:21-23).

[x] [ ]  9. Are you meek (meekness is strength submitted under authority)?  Moses was an example of someone who was meek.   "Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth" (Numbers 12:3).   "And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated" (Deuteronomy 34:7).

[ ] [x]  10. Do you sometimes reject other Believers who are part of the body?  Some early Believers got sick and died because of this sin.   "For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.  For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep" (I Corinthians 11:29-30).  "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven" (Luke 6:37).

[ ] [x]  11. Do you ever lie to the Holy Spirit?  A husband and wife dropped dead because they lied to the Holy Spirit.  "But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?   And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.   Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out" (Acts 5:3, 5, 9).

[x] [ ]  12. Do you rest on the sabbath?  God set this as an everlasting principle.   "But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates.  For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it" (Exodus 20:10-11).   "Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death" (Exodus 31:15).

[ ] [x]  13. Are you trying to serve God your way and not His?  This cost the lives of the two sons of Aaron.   "And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not.    And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD" (Leviticus 10:1-2).

[x] [ ] 14. Do you eat fish, cucumbers, melons, leeks, onions, and garlic?  This was the diet that kept the Israelites healthy.   "We remember the fish, which we did eat in Egypt freely; the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlick" (Numbers 11:5). "He brought them forth also with silver and gold: and there was not one feeble person among their tribes" (Psalms 105:37).

[ ] [x] 15. Do you seek physicians rather than God when you get sick?  God is a jealous God and wants us to look to Him for healing.   "And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee" (Exodus 15:26).    "And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the LORD, but to the physicians.    And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the one and fortieth year of his reign" (II Chronicles 16:12-13).

[x] [ ] 16. Do you give thanks to God for what you have to eat?  We are to set the food apart unto the Lord.   "For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving:  For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer" (I Timothy 4:4-5).  Paul gave thanks for bread during the middle of a storm at sea.   "And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat" (Acts 27:35).

[x] [ ] 17. Do you seek to see life from God's perspective?  Wisdom is seeing from God's perspective.   "Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding" (Proverbs 3:13).   "Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour" (Proverbs 3:16).    "For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased" (Proverbs 9:11).

[x] [ ] 18. Are you conscious that God will discipline you whenever you do wrong?  Fear of the Lord is knowing that God disciplines us when we do wrong.    "Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.    It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones" (Proverbs 3:7-8).  "The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened" (Proverbs 10:27).  {prolongeth: Heb. addeth}

[ ] [x]  19. Do you go about speaking evil of others?  When we speak evil about others, we are expressing a rottenness inside of us.  "Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled" (Hebrews 12:15).    "For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile" (I Peter 3:10).

[x] [ ]  20. Do you call upon God when you find yourself in trouble?  Casting our cares upon God gives us a freedom.   "He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.  With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation" (Psalms 91:15-16

[x] [ ] 21. Are you faithfully obedient to the Word of God?  This sets us free from guilt and give us long life.  "And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days" (I Kings 3:14).  "Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken" (Amos 5:14).

[x] [ ] 22. Are you humble, opposed to being prideful?  God likes to show Himself strong to the humble.   "By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life" (Proverbs 22:4).   "Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble" (I Peter 5:5).  Note: one grace may be to live longer.

[x] [ ] 23. Do you fast (refrain from food and /or water) regularly?  Physicians tell us that fasting strengthens the ammune system.   "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?" (Isaiah 58:6).  "And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not" (Isaiah 58:11).

[ ] [x] 24. Do you envy what others have?  Envy is the root to much sin and many physical problems.   "A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones' (Proverbs 14:30).   "Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy?" (Proverbs 27:4).

Less some may misunderstand, just trying to obey the Law is futile and brings us into a spiritual bondage.  We must obey the Spirit while keeping the Law as a backdrop. "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life" (II Corinthians 3:6).
