Foundation Principles
Test
Answer Sheet

"Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection (maturity); not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit."  (Hebrews 6:1-3).

Note:  You should allow yourself a couple of wrong answers: one for misunderstanding the question and one for emotional influence.

Set One
One Foundation
[F] 1. Through Adam's disobedience, sin entered into the world, and that sin nature was passed to all men. (Romans 5:12, 3:10, 3:23).

[F] 2. Faith in Jesus is the only way to Heaven.  (John 14:6, Acts 4:12).

[F] 3. One can know the meaning of the Word by studying the Word and revelation of the Holy Spirit.  (II Timothy 2:15).

[T] 4. Jesus is the only true foundation for spiritual growth and maturity.  (Matthew 7:24-27, I Corinthians 3:11).

[T] 5. We are to build good things upon the foundation of Jesus.  (I Corinthians 3:12-15, II Peter 1:5-8).

Set Two
Repentance from dead works
[F] 1. It take only one sin to make a person a sinner, and man is incapable of doing enough good to change himself. ( James 2:10, Romans 3:20).

[F] 2. The devils believe in God, but are not going to Heaven.  The sin that will keep one out of Heaven is the rejection of Jesus.  (James 2:19, John 16:8-10).

[F] 3. Man in the world is sorry when he gets caught, but godly sorry leads one to do an about face (repent).  (II Corinthians 7:9-10).

[T] 4. Man is saved by grace through faith (receiving the work of Jesus) and needs to repent of his own efforts (dead works) to save himself.  (Romans 11:6, Hebrew 9:14).

[T] 5. A Christian may turn from the love of Jesus and therefore needs to repent.  (Revelation 2:5, 3:19).

Set Three
Faith toward God
[F] 1. One must give up having faith in himself and turn to having faith in God. (John 12:25, Acts 20:21).

[T] 2. One must give himself to Jesus to allow Jesus to change him on the inside, then Jesus will save him.  (Romans 10:9-10, II Timothy 1:12).

[T] 3. Through faith in Jesus, there will be a change in the spirit-man that will produce some good works, otherwise the faith is not living faith. (James 2:17-18, I John 2:19).

[T] 4. Faith is more than just believing that there is a God.  It is believing that God honors His Word. (Hebrew 11:6, II Chronicles 20:20).

[T] 5. Jesus did not come to destroy the commandments.  We demonstrate our love in faith by keeping the commandments.  (Matthew 5:17, I John 3:22-24).

Set Four
The doctrine of baptisms
[F] 1. Water baptism can not save the spirit of man because that would be a work of man to save himself.  (Mark 16:16, Romans 3:28).

[T] 2. When we accept Jesus as our Lord, we are spiritually joined unto Jesus in his death, burial, and resurrection.  This is a spiritual baptism.  (Romans 6:1-11).

[T] 3. Water baptism (by immersion) is an act of obedience for the new Believer in which he identifies himself with Jesus in his death, burial, and resurrection. (Colossians 2:12-13, Galatians 2:20).

[T] 4. One also should by faith receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit which empowers him to be a witness unto Jesus.  This should be followed by daily fillings.  (Acts 1:8, Ephesians 5:18).

[T] 5. Jesus is our example of suffering; therefore, we will also experience the baptism of suffering. (Luke 12:50, John 16:33, I Peter 2:19-24).

Set Five
The doctrine of laying on of hands
[T] 1. The hands are an extension of the body and do represent the power and authority of an individual.  (Genesis 16:9, Exodus 15:6).

[T] 2. Joshua received the gift of wisdom through Moses' hands, and Timothy received a spiritual gift though the laying on of hands.  (Deuteronomy 34:9, I Timothy 4:14).

[T] 3. The normal means for a Believer to receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit is through the laying on of hands. (Acts 8:17-19, 19:6).

[T] 4. People often receive healing through the laying on of hands. (Mark 16:17-18, Luke 4:40].

[T] 5. The New Testament church practiced the laying on of hands to set people apart for ministry. (Acts 6:6, 13:3).

Set Six
The resurrection of the dead
[T] 1. Every person that dies in this life will be resurrected from the dead. (Daniel 12:2).

[T] 2. There were a number of people temporarily raised from the dead before the resurrection of Jesus. (II Kings 4:18-35, John 11:44).

[T] 3. If Jesus was not raised from the dead, Christians are deceived and have no hope. (I Corinthians 15:12-19).

[T] 4. A Believer is justified through the resurrection of Jesus.  This means that he can live as though he has never sinned. (Roman 4:25).

[T] 5. The Bible teaches that there will be basically two resurrections: one to eternal destruction and the other to everlasting life. (Daniel 12:2, Revelation 20:12-15).

Set Seven
Eternal Judgment
[T] 1. For God to be righteous He must judge man for his rebellion even as He judges the devil for his rebellion. (John 16:11, Matthew 25:41).

[F] 2. Hell (more accurately known as the lake of fire) is a real place reserved for the final judgment. (Mark 9:43-50, Luke 16:19-31, Revelation 20:10).

[F] 3. The other side to God's love is His wrath.  He will send those who reject Jesus to the lake of fire. (Matthew 25:41, Revelation 20:14).

[T] 4. All who receive Jesus as their Lord by faith will have a place in the Father's house to spend eternity.  (John 14:1-2, I Thessalonians 4:17, Revelation 22:17).

[T] 5. A Believer will gain or lose rewards based upon his obedience in this life as a Believer.  (I Corinthians 3:12-15, II Corinthians 5:10).

If you did well on the test, you should be prepared to go on to maturity!
Praise the Lord!
