The Grace of Giving

People often feel helpless, useless, angry, and depressed because they haven't learned the truth about giving.  I am not speaking just about finances, but everything. What can you give to your family, your church, your enemies, your friends, your community, your state, your country, and your world?

It is about giving!   It is about giving!   It is about giving!
Some truths on  the Grace of Giving:

1. God so loved that He gave.  "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life"  (John 3:16).

2. Since God gave His only begotten son, He will also freely give us all things.  "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"  (Romans 8:32).

3. Jesus so loves us that he gave his own life.  "Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again"  (John 10:17).
"I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep"  (John 10:11).

4. Jesus said that it is more blessed to give than to receive.  "I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive"  (Acts 20:35).

5. The widow gave the most in giving what she had.  "And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.  And he said, Of a truth I say unto you, that this poor widow hath cast in more than they all:  For all these have of their abundance cast in unto the offerings of God: but she of her penury hath cast in all the living that she had"  (Luke 21:2-4).

6. The young boy  gave the five loaves and two fish.  "He answered and said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they say unto him, Shall we go and buy two hundred pennyworth of bread, and give them to eat?  He saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? go and see. And when they knew, they say, Five, and two fishes" (Mark 6:37-38). "There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?"  (John 6:9)

7. You can't out give God. Give and it shall be given to you.  "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again"  (Luke 6:38).

8. The widow woman and her son gave their last meal to Elijah.  "And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die. And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.  For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth"  (I Kings 17:12-14).

9. Peter didn't give the lame man money, but gave him what it had.   "Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.  And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength"  (Acts 3:6-7).

10. Freely you have received, freely give.  "Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give" (Matthew 10:8).

11. Faith is going beyond what is expected. (Giving).  "Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.  So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do" (Luke 17:9-10).

12. The prophet that has a dream is to tell (give) it.  "The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the LORD"  (Jeremiah 23:28)

13. Casting your bread upon the waters is giving.  "Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days"  (Ecclesiastes 11:1).

14. Sowing seed is giving.  "He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him"  (Psalms 126:6).

15. To forgive is to give.  In fact, "give" is in the middle of the word "forgiveness."  "Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?  Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven"  (Matthew 18:21-22).

16. He that gives to the poor lends to the Lord.  "He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again"  (Proverbs 19:17).

17. Let him that stole, steal no more, but labor to give. "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth"  (Ephesians 4:28).

18. We are to fast in order to give. "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?  Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?  Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward"  (Isaiah 58:6-8)

19. The devil can't steal from you what you have given to the Lord.  "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.  Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour"  (I Peter 5:7-8).

20. One must let go of self to give to the Lord.  "Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me"  (Matthew 16:24).

21. To serve others is to give.  "And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all. For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many"  (Mark 10:44-45).

22. The good Samaritan gave.  "And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee"  (Luke 10:35)

23. When Job gave up a prayer for his friends, God blessed him in return. "And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before"  (Job 42:10).

24. Yielding rights is giving.  "And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain"  (Matthew 5:41)

25. We are to give by comforting others with what God has given us to comfort. "Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God"  (II Corinthians 1:3-4).

26. To speak blessings is to give.  "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you"  (Matthew 5:44).

27. What we learn from the Lord we are to give to others. "The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned"  (Isaiah 50:4).

28. When we give thanks we are giving unto God.  "Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ"  (Ephesians 5:20).

29. True worship is giving worth to God.  "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created"  (Revelation 4:11).

30. When we give the battle to the Lord, He gives us the victory.  "And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, it is nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou art our God; let not man prevail against thee. So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled"  (II Chronicles 14:11-12).

There are two kinds of people: those who are always seeking to get and those who are looking to give.  Why one are you?
