Total Healing

How many triangles do you see in the above graphic??? The number may surprise you.

It is not uncommon that people come to me for counseling after trying every other approach that they could find.  For some, they feel that Whole Person Counseling is their last chance.  Before you think that I have a head too big for my hat, God is the the One who actually does the healing!  Many say that they have done various things to try to receive healing, but still haven't received healing.  It is often good that they have done what they have done, but they, most likely, have not completed the course.  Allow me to insert, that the reason that I often do two weeks of intensive counseling with an individual, working from four to six hours per day, Monday through Friday is to take the time to cover all the bases.

Much like the triangles in the above graphic, there are many factors in healing.  You may look and only see the large triangle.  However, the largest triangle has many other triangles with it.  This article is to outline some of those factors.  There are basically three areas of healing: spirit, soul (mind, will, and emotions), and the body.  Please note that it begins in the spirit of man.  Once the spirit is healed through salvation of the spirit, then it can move to the area of the soul.  Quiet often the soul must be healed before healing can take place in the body.  Of course other areas of our lives are effected by the healing of the soul, such as relations with others, our productivity, and our finances.

1. First, you must have a desire to be healed.
"When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?"  (John 5:6).
2. Pray and ask God to show you the root issues.
"Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God"  (Philippians 4:6).
See:  Prayer For Discovery ".
3. Allow yourself to remember any trauma experiences in your life and also the pain.
"Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee"  (Psalms 88:9).
4. Purpose by the grace of God to forgive the offender.
"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you"  (Matthew 6:14).   See: "Bondage Of Unforgiveness".
5. Place the judgment of the offender into God's hands and ask God also to forgive the offender.
"Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots"  (Luke 23:34).  "And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep"  (Acts 7:60).
6. Ask God to forgive you of any unforgiveness, anger, resentment, bitterness, hatred, or revenge that you have held toward the offender.
"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness"  (I John 1:9).
7. Ask God to recover the ground that the enemy has taken through the experience.
"Let my supplication come before thee: deliver me according to thy word"  (Psalms 119:170).  See: "The Open Door".
8. Bind the powers of darkness (evil spirits).
"And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven"  (Matthew 16:19).
9. Command that the evil spirits leave your mind, will, emotions, and body and not to return.
"And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues"  (Mark 16:17).  We are to give the eviction notice, but God enforces it.  See: "Deliverance Prayer Guide".
10. You should do this strictly based upon the Word of truth.
"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you"  (James 4:7).
11. Validate that you are free, by asking the Holy Spirit, "Am I free in this area?"
"The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God"  (Romans 8:16).
12. If you are not free (you don't have peace), then ask the Holy Spirit, "What is keeping me from receiving freedom?"
"Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my (disquieting) thoughts"  (Psalms 139:23).  Take care of any issues that arrive in same manner as previous stated.
13. Once the emotional wounds have been cleansed, there is still a need to ask God to bring healing.
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,  To preach the acceptable year of the Lord" (Luke 4:18-19).  Furthermore, this is based upon: "He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed"  (Isaiah 53:3-5).  See: "The Wounded Heart".
14. Ask God to take away any hardness in your heart and to give you a new heart in this area.
"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh"  (Ezekiel 36:26).  A heart of flesh is one that is appropriately sensitive to one's own feelings and also to the feelings of others.
15. Ask God to fill your heart with His love, joy, and peace.
"For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost"  (Romans 14:17).  "That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,  May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;  And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God"  (Ephesians 3:17-19).
16. For healing to be complete, it is often necessary to acknowledge your own offenses to the one offended and to ask for forgiveness.
"Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift"  (Matthew 5:23-24).  Paul said, "And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men"  (Acts 24:16).  See:  "Get A Clear Conscience".
17. In some cases, it is needful to make restitution when you have stolen something.
"If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep"  (Exodus 22:1).  This is only one example.   "Or all that about which he hath sworn falsely; he shall even restore it in the principal, and shall add the fifth part more thereto, and give it unto him to whom it appertaineth, in the day of his trespass offerin"  (Leviticus 6:5).
18. In some cases it is needful to bless the offender.
"But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you"  (Matthew 5:44).
19. You may also need to do some personal house cleaning of ungodly items.
"The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.  Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing"  (Deuteronomy 7:25-26).  See: "Personal House Cleaning".
20. One must not forget to break the generational curses.
"Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me" (Exodus 20:5). See:  "How To Destroy The Evil Tree".  "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree"  (Galatians 3:13).
21. Remember that physical healing often comes in proportion to the healing of the soul (mind, will, and emotions).
"Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth"  (III John 1:2).  See: "Healing Factors".  "But Jesus turned him about, and when he saw her, he said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour"  (Matthew 9:22).
