for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to
his purpose" (Romans 8:28)

things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31).

than the enemy in the world.

Excellent Passages To Memorize
~ Psalm 23 ~
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still
waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness
for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy
rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with
oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the
LORD for ever" (Psalms 23:1-6). |
~ Psalm 91 ~
"He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most
High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of
the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the
noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under
his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that
flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor
for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall
at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come
nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward
of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge,
even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee,
neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give
his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall
bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon
shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon
me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath
known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will
be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With
long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation" (Psalms
91:1-16). |
~ Romans 8 ~
"And we know that all things work together for good
to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the
image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called,
them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against
us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him
up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is
risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession
for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation,
or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted
as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more
than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded,
that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers,
nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor
any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 8:28-39). |
In contrast to the unhealthy fears,
there is a a fear of God. This does not mean that we walk around
all the time with our hands covering our heads expecting God to strike
us dead all the time. Such fear is an ungodly fear. However, it means
that we understand that there is a consequence for every thought that we
entertain, every word that we speak, and every thing which we do, whether
it is good or bad. It is a reverence for the all knowing, sovereign
Ruler of creation. This fear must also be balanced with the understanding
of God's mercy and grace.
