The Guarantee
I like to buy things that come with an absolute
lifetime
guarantee. However, when we come to
scriptures,
we often come with a lot of doubt about there being any guarantee with them.
I am challenged to look at the Word of God from a new
perspective
of an absolute lifetime GUARANTEE.
I. GENERAL REFERENCES:
"God
is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he
should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken,
and shall he not make it good?" (Numbers 23:19).
"God forbid:
yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou
mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou
art judged" (Romans 3:4).
"Thy word is true
from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth
for ever" (Psalms 119:160).
"Every word of God is
pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him"
(Proverbs 30:5).
"The words of the
LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified
seven times" (Psalms 12:6).
"Thy word is very
pure: therefore thy servant loveth it" (Psalms
119:140).
"As
for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a
buckler to all those that trust in him" (Psalms
18:30).
"I
will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy
lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word
above all thy name" (Psalms 138:2).
"In hope of eternal
life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began"
(Titus 1:2).
"That
by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we
might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold
upon the hope set before us" (Hebrews 6:18).
"For the vision
is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not
lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will
not tarry" (Habakkuk 2:3).
"For I am the LORD, I
change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed"
(Malachi 3:6).
"I will cry unto God
most high; unto God that performeth all things for me"
(Psalms 57:2).
"All
scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for
doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness" (II Timothy 3:16).
II. MORE SPECIFIC GUARANTEES:
COVENANT = A covenant is generally considered an agreement brought about through the shedding of blood. IT IS A
GUARANTEED AGREEMENT.
NOAH
= "But with thee will
I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into
the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with
thee" (Genesis 6:18). "And God said, This is the
token of the
covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that
is with you, for perpetual generations" (Genesis
9:12). God's sign of the guarantee was and is the rainbow.
ABRAHAM
= "And I will make of
thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and
make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will
bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in
thee shall all families of the earth be blessed"
(Genesis 12:3).
"In the
same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram,
saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt
unto the great river, the river Euphrates"
(Genesis 15:18).
This is a guarantee in blood. Only God walked
between
the sacrifices. For Abraham and the people after him,
circumcision, an permanent, irreversible act, was to be a sign
of
the covenant.. "And
ye shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token
of the covenant betwixt me and you" (Genesis
17:11).
.
MOSES
= "And he took the
book of the covenant, and read in the audience of the
people: and they said, All that the LORD hath said will we do, and be
obedient" (Exodus 24:7). "And he was there with the
LORD
forty days and forty nights; he did neither eat bread, nor drink water.
And he wrote upon the tables the words of the covenant, the ten
commandments" (Exodus 34:28).
AMEN = The Hebrew word "amen" in Old Testament means to be "trustworthy". It is used 30 times. "Blessed be the LORD God of Israel for ever and ever. And all the people said, Amen, and praised the LORD" (I Chronicles 16:36). It means to come into agreement with that God is trustworthy. "Even
the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen: the LORD do so: the LORD perform thy
words which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of the
LORD'S house, and all that is carried away captive, from Babylon into
this place" (Jeremiah 28:6).
NEW COVENANT
= (new agreement) = "Behold,
the days come, saith the LORD, that
I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house
of Judah" (Jeremiah 31:31). "For finding fault with them,
he
saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new
covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah"
(Hebrews 8:8). "In
that he saith, A new covenant, he hath made the first
old. Now that which decayeth and waxeth old is ready to vanish
away" (Hebrews 8:13). "And to Jesus the mediator of
the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better
things than that of Abel" (Hebrews 12:24).
"But now
hath he
obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator
of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises"
(Hebrews 8:6).
NEW TESTAMENT
= (new agreement sealed
with the blood of Jesus). "For
this is my blood of the new testament,
which is shed for many for the remission of sins"
(Matthew
26:28). "After
the same manner also he took the cup, when he had
supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye,
as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me" (I
Corinthians
11:25). "And for this
cause he is the mediator of the new
testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the
transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are
called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance"
(Hebrews
9:15). "He that
spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for
us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"
(Romans 8:32).
"AMEN" = The word "amen" in the New Testament is the same Greek word that is translated as
"verily". This Greek word means firmly, surely, and trustworthy. It is used 152 times in the New Testament. It is translated "verily" 105 times and "amen" 52 times. "For
all the promises of God
in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us"
(II
Corinthians 1:20).
"And they
went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working
with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen"
(Mark 16:20). It
is more than putting a period to the sentence, it is a GUARANTEE. "And
unto the angel of the church of the
Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true
witness, the beginning of the creation of God"
(Revelation 3:14). Here we see that Jesus is the Amen! Jesus is our guarantee or guarantor!
VERILY = (I
guarantee) "And
Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto
you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto
this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and
nothing shall be impossible unto you" (Matthew
17:20).
"For
verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be
thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his
heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to
pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith" (Mark
11:23).
"VERILY,
VERILY" =
John who was the disciple and who was the closest disciple to Jesus uses
the
expression "verily, verily" for emphasis
of the guarantee of the words
of Jesus. It is like saying, "For sure, for sure!" "And
in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it
you" (John 16:23). "Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do
shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I
go unto my Father" (John 14:12).
"SEAL" = "He that hath
received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true"
(John 3:33). The SEAL
is a guarantee. Jesus guarantees that the Word of God is
true.
In fact, Jesus is the guarantee that the Word of God is true.
"SUBSTANCE and EVIDENCE" = "Now faith is the
substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"
(Hebrews 11:1). My wife and I have some mineral rights which
my
wife's grandfather deeded to us on some property in Oklahoma.
I
have yet to see the minerals, but we have a physical deed that is a
guarantee to
the minerals. In fact, an oil company purchased a five year lease at
one
time to do some explorations. Whatever the minerals are there, belong
to
my wife and I. The deed is the "evidence" of ownership of the minerals and our
faith based upon the Word is "evidence" our ownership of the promises
of God.
III. WHAT IS GUARANTEED?
A. God guaranteed all His promises. "For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us" (II Corinthians 1:20).
B. Jesus guaranteed that Jesus has delegated authority to us to overcome the mountains in our way. "For
verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be
thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his
heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to
pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith" (Mark 11:23).
C. Jesus guaranteed that we can do the works of Jesus and even greater works. "Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do
shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I
go unto my Father" (John 14:12).
D. Jesus guaranteed an Eternal Inheritance for us. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life" (John 6:47).
E. Jesus guaranteed that he delegated to Believers the authority to bind and loose. "Verily
I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven" (Matthew 18:18).
F. Jesus guaranteed that whatever we ask in his name, the Father will give to us. "And
in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you,
Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you" (John 16:23).
G. Jesus guaranteed that he would come again. "He
which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even
so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with
you all. Amen" (Revelation 22:20-21).
IV. EVIDENCE OF THE GUARANTEE:
A.
The empty tomb, as illustrated above, is one of many prophecies
(about 350) fulfilled in the life, death, and resurrection of Christ. "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption" (Psalms 16:10).
B. Signs, wonders and miracles performed today in the name of Jesus. "And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen" (Mark 16:20).
C. The changed life of Believers is also a guarantee of the truth of God's Word. "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new" (II Corinthians 5:17).
V. THE CHALLENGE IS TO BELIEVE.
What must we do to receive the promises of God? The primary key factor is that we must believe. "Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth" (Mark 9:23). "Verily,
verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do
shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I
go unto my Father" (John 14:12). "He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water" (John 7:38).
